PhP1.2 Billion worth of loans were extended by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to thirty-five (35) electric cooperatives last year, according to the agency's Accounts Management and Guarantee Department (AMGD).

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has directed the Region I, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Electric Cooperatives (ECs) and the Sorsogon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SORECO I) (“Aggregation”) to report and explain the highly irregular process undertaken by it regarding the Competitive Selection Process (CSP) for the purchase of a aggregated power requirement of the participating ECs totaling to 130MW.
During a consultative meeting between NEA and the Aggregation last February 9, 2023, It was discovered that the Aggregation’s Joint Third Party Bids and Awards Committee earlier declared two (2) failed biddings on June 14, 2022 and December 9, 2022 when the bidders were found short of the requirements as prescribed under the pertinent Terms of Reference (TOR).

In a consultative meeting in Butuan City last 07 February 2023, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano C. Almeda sought the help of CARAGA Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (CRECA) in improving the collection efficiency of electric cooperatives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). He appealed to CRECA to extend a helping hand by donating electric meters.
CRECA did not hesitate to heed the call of the Administrator and pledged a total of 12,000 electric meters with an estimated value of PhP12 Million. The association will also donate 8,000 service drop wires and will form a task force that will assist the BARMM ECs in the installation of the electric meters.

Electric Cooperatives (ECs) nationwide are reminded to conduct regular district elections as mandated by the EC By-Laws.
In Memorandum No. 2023-07, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said that there shall be no deferment of elections except for the serious causes specified under Article I, Section 4 of NEA Memorandum No. 2014-09 or the "Guidelines on the Conduct of District Elections for ECs."
The serious causes include violence, terrorism, loss or destruction of election paraphernalia or records, force majeure and holding a free, honest, and orderly election is impossible.

Procurement of at least one (1) satellite phone per electric cooperative (EC) was recommended by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for an efficient way of communication and reporting during and after the onslaught of calamities, disasters and other emergencies.
