Electric Cooperatives (ECs) nationwide are reminded to conduct regular district elections as mandated by the EC By-Laws.

In Memorandum No. 2023-07, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said that there shall be no deferment of elections except for the serious causes specified under Article I, Section 4 of NEA Memorandum No. 2014-09 or the "Guidelines on the Conduct of District Elections for ECs."

The serious causes include violence, terrorism, loss or destruction of election paraphernalia or records, force majeure and holding a free, honest, and orderly election is impossible.

In a consultative meeting in Butuan City last 07 February 2023, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano C. Almeda sought the help of CARAGA Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (CRECA) in improving the collection efficiency of electric cooperatives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). He appealed to CRECA to extend a helping hand by donating electric meters.

CRECA did not hesitate to heed the call of the Administrator and pledged a total of 12,000 electric meters with an estimated value of PhP12 Million. The association will also donate 8,000 service drop wires and will form a task force that will assist the BARMM ECs in the installation of the electric meters.

Procurement of at least one (1) satellite phone per electric cooperative (EC) was recommended by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for an efficient way of communication and reporting during and after the onslaught of calamities, disasters and other emergencies.

The Philippines is vulnerable to frequent earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and other related calamities or disasters due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire and Pacific Typhoon Belt.
