The National Electrification Administration (NEA) strongly condemns the bombing of the tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. The said attack resulted in power interruptions in some EC coverage areas in Mindanao.

NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) reported that a total of seven (7) electric cooperatives (ECs) were affected by the bombing incident. These were the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZAMCELCO), Zamboanga del Sur I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZAMSURECO I), Zamboanga del Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZAMSURECO II), Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZANECO), Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MOELCI I), Misamis Occidental II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MOELCI II) and Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LANECO).

Electric services in Abra and nearby provinces were affected by the Magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck late Tuesday evening.

According to Engr. Eric B. Campoto, NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) Officer-in-Charge, Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO) is currently experiencing partial power interruption affecting the municipalities of Bangued, Tineg and Tayum. While Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ISECO) and Cagayan II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CAGELCO II) have likewise experienced power interruptions but managed to restore the power right away.

As reported by PHIVOLCS, the earthquake struck at 10:59 pm and it was felt in nearby provinces in Northern Luzon.

In response to Masbate Electric Cooperative, Inc.’s (MASELCO) request for assistance on the Project for Rehabilitation of Metering Facilities within Masbate City, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) coordinated a task force with volunteers from the Bicol Electric Cooperative Association (BECA) and assigned Principal Engineer Carl Xerxes D. Javillo of the Engineering Department to assist the task force.

The first batch of BECA Task Force with ten (10) warriors of light - four (4) from Sorsogon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SORECO I), four (4) from Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SORECO II) and two (2) from Ticao Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TISELCO) went to Masbate from 19 September 2022 till 30 September 2022.
