Amidst the pressing issue of high power rates mainly attributable to the price of fossil fuel and peso exchange rate to US dollar, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) conducted the 2023 Strategic Thinking with the Electric Cooperatives to address the requirements of the changing environment and satisfy the heightened expectations of the stakeholders towards a clean energy future.

Board Presidents, General Managers and other officials of the electric cooperatives (ECs) from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao attended the event held at the headquarters of Peninsula Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PENELCO) in Bataan last 15-16 November 2022.

The proposed budget of the Energy Family including the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for Fiscal Year 2023 passed the Senate Plenary Deliberation yesterday, 10 November 2022.

Sen. Sherwin T. Gatchalian is the budget sponsor of the Department of Energy and its attached agencies. Key officials of the Department of Energy, National Electrification Administration, National Power Corporation and Philippine National Oil Company were present in the plenary deliberation. Administrator Emmanuel P. Juaneza led the NEA officials in the budget hearing.

Among the topics discussed was the funding for the various electrification projects of the government including NEA's Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) which was allotted a PhP1.6 Billion budget. ###

Twelve (12) electric cooperatives (ECs) from various regions in the country incurred an initial cost of damage of PhP7,421,980.63 due to Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng.

Based on the power monitoring report of the National Electrification Administration’s (NEA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) as of 31 October 2022, the 12 ECs with reported damage to their facilities are Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO), Pampanga II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PELCO II), Marinduque Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MARELCO), Zambales II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZAMECO II), Romblon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ROMELCO), Tablas Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TIELCO), Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II), Aklan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AKELCO), Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NONECO), Samar II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SAMELCO II), Leyte V Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO V) and Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PROSIELCO).
