The National Electrification Administration Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda graced the first day of the 2023 National Association of General Managers of Electric Cooperatives (NAGMEC) Convention and 26th Annual General Membership Meeting in Novotel, Quezon City.
In line with the convention's theme, "Making the Legacy of Rural Electrification: Elevating EC Contribution in National Sustainable Development," Admin Almeda narrated in his speech that as soon as he assumed office, he was tasked to solve ALECO and BENECO's issues consecutively by spearheading task forces with General Managers and collaborating with government officials.
Afterwards, the President immediately gave him the task to solve decades of electricity crisis in Occidental Mindoro in a two-month timeframe. The Administrator elaborated his plans and course of action to immediately give solution to the province's power deficiency, gathering offers and negotiations, tapping different power suppliers and even entering into emergency power supply agreement (EPSA) as an alternative.
"It's a big relief to see lives not being exposed to risk anymore because of power failure. I can see the joy of the whole province. Abot ang kanilang pasasalamat. That is the very motivation I have here right now and why I think I enjoy my job. Because I have to enjoy it, for me to have the energy to move on," the NEA Chief recounted as he witnessed dialysis patients struggling to get proper care and treatment due to power outage. The Malacañang Office lauded Admin Almeda's success in bringing back electricity to Occidental Mindoro.
Admin Almeda acknowledged the great contributions of the GMs of the ECs for him to be relevant in his job. He added that, "I need all of you. I need all of you to be effective in my job. And I'm very thankful because you make me feel that you accept my authority. You accept my guidance. And most of all, you respect me. Maraming, maraming salamat po."
In his bold and vigorous mission, the Administrator pledged President Marcos 100% electrification of the Philippines by 2028. "I always believe, power precedes progress. Walang progresong mangyayari sa lugar kapag kulang o walang kuryente. And for me, that's a tough job. We are in the forefront of nation-building. We are the frontliners of development," he stated.
Admin Almeda commended NAGMEC for being organized and showed gratitude for the help and support of everyone. To reciprocate the action, he guaranteed that his office is always available for consultation and open for communication.
During the Fellowship Night and Knighthood Ceremony, the NEA Chief proclaimed the newly elected NAGMEC officials and administered their oath-taking. The Official Logo, Sword and Motto of the Knighthood were also presented. Likewise, the Rings of the Supreme Knight and First Batch of Knights of Lights were installed. ###
