Electric cooperatives (ECs) nationwide were advised by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to prepare for the impact of Typhoon Betty, which has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday.
The NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) instructed the ECs to take the appropriate contingency measures in order to mitigate the impact of the potential threats that might affect their electric service.
ECs are directed as well to "activate their Emergency Response Organization (ERO) accordingly when the need arises to implement without delay the appropriate emergency response plans."
Moreover, ECs must ensure that materials/buffer stocks needed are readily available and prepositioned in case of power restoration. They were also advised to keep monitoring weather conditions with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
After the weather disturbance, electric service in areas that were not affected by the typhoon but temporarily shut-off for safety reasons must be restored. ECs are required to submit damage and power situation reports to NEA DRRMD.###
