Electric Cooperatives (ECs) nationwide are reminded to conduct regular district elections as mandated by the EC By-Laws.
In Memorandum No. 2023-07, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said that there shall be no deferment of elections except for the serious causes specified under Article I, Section 4 of NEA Memorandum No. 2014-09 or the "Guidelines on the Conduct of District Elections for ECs."
The serious causes include violence, terrorism, loss or destruction of election paraphernalia or records, force majeure and holding a free, honest, and orderly election is impossible.
Accordingly, concerned electric cooperatives are directed to submit to NEA, through the Institutional Development Department (IDD) within fifteen (15) days from receipt hereof, a Board Resolution scheduling the conduct of 2023 Regular District Elections, with a specific date and timetable of related activities.
The NEA Chief asserted that "it is the NEA and the ECs common responsibility to the member-consumers and stakeholders to protect their rights and interest, through constant respect for and obedience to the EC By-laws, and relevant rules and regulations."
He also reminded the ECs that even as we continue to transition back to normalcy with the ease of pandemic restrictions, the observance of minimum public health standards and basic protocols for safety must be ensured. ###
