NEA Administrator gathers ABDEC officers and members

On February 7, 2017, NEA Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong met some 835 officers and members of the Association of Board of Directors of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (ABDEC) coming from 41 electric cooperatives (ECs) at the H.E.S.A., 2nd Floor, Quezon City. This activity is part of the Administrator’s agenda for the EC organizations to become more unified and stronger to confront the numerous challenges in the Rural Electrification (RE) movement.

NEA creates Task Force Duterte-Lanao Sur Power to revive ailing power coop

In a move to rehabilitate the ailing Lanao Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LASURECO), new National Electrification Administration (NEA) chief Edgardo R. Masongsong created Task Force Duterte Lanao Sur Power last January 29 to improve electricity service to consumers in Lanao del Sur.

 

“Thru LS Power, NEA aims to re-engineer Lasureco into an excellently performing distribution utility. Towards this end, strategic initiatives have been drawn to meet specific deliverables," according to Masongsong.

NEA electrifies 3,335 sitios in 2016

By bringing electricity to 100,050 more households in 3,335 sitios nationwide with a total fund outlay of Php2.7 billion from the government’s Sitio Electrification Program (SEP), National Electrification Administration (NEA), in partnership with the Electric Cooperatives, exceeded the 2016 target of 3,150 by 185 benefitting over half a million Filipinos.

 

According to Administrator Edgardo R, Masongsong, “the continued intensification of rural electrification is in line with the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s thrust of aggressively pursuing socio-economic programs that would reduce, if not eliminate, poverty incidence in the rural areas of the country through the provision of reliable, efficient and affordable electricity.”

NEA pump primes CASURECO III for Typhoon Nina restoration efforts

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has initiated remedial measures to pump prime the power restoration efforts in Camarines Sur III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO III) following the directive of Energy Secretary and NEA Board Chair Alfonso G. Cusi to fast track the rehabilitation of damaged distribution lines caused by super-typhoon Nina which stands at 76.87% in terms of households re-energized as of 3:00 pm of January 31, 2017.

 

“The people deserve the best and most efficient service that the electric cooperatives (ECs) can provide. They already suffer the wrath of nature. It is unfair that they are also deprived of the most basic necessities in life, electricity, among others”, said Secretary Cusi.

National Electrification Administration (NEA) Chief Edgardo Masongsong said that the Agency is fully committed to assist the Abra Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ABRECO) as the power coop gathers pace to implement plans to improve its operations and serve better its Member-Consumer-Owners (MCOs).

 

“NEA continues to institute mechanisms that will favorably advance the cause of our electricity consumers in the province of Abra. We are following directives from President Rodrigo Duterte and Secretary Alfonso Cusi to look from the perspective of our consumers and intensify the electrification of far-flung areas to give our people a fair chance to have a meaningful and satisfying life,” the Administrator said.

Task Force Kapatid Nina upbeat on power restoration

Time-tested Task Force Kapatid (TFK) remains upbeat on completing power restoration works for Nina-hit areas by early February as its ground personnel now totals 1,074.

 

TFK-Nina includes contingents from the National Electrification Administration (NEA), 43 electric cooperatives (ECs), and 8 private distribution utilities deployed in the various coverage areas of the eight ECs that were hit the hardest by typhoon Nina. These eight ECs are Quezon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (QUEZELCO I), Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ORMECO), Marinduque Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MARELCO), Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II), Camarines Sur III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO III), Camarines Sur IV Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO IV), Albay Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ALECO), and First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO).

NEA vows to intensify electrification of rural communities, empowerment of electric coops

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has crafted plans anew to intensify the Rural Electrification (RE) Program and capacitate its partner electric cooperatives (ECs) following NEA Administrator Edgardo Masongsong’s vow for a more strengthened partnership between the Agency and the ECs.

 

In the NEA 2017 Strategic Thinking Conference-Workshop held on December 26-28, 2016 at the NEA Building, Diliman, Quezon City, Administrator Masongsong batted for multi-pronged initiatives that will not only accelerate the energization of unlit areas in the country, but will also make the services of the Agency more responsive to the needs of the ECs and the electricity consumers.

NEA awarded as an Energy Efficient Government Building

State-run National Electrification Administration (NEA), led the 10 outstanding recipients for this year’s award on “Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Government Buildings”, in terms of energy savings generated at 43.53%. The award was given by the Department of Energy (DOE) under the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) anchored on Administrative Order 110 and 126 as amended during the recognition ceremonies of the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Award at the Maxims Hotel @ Resorts World Manila in Pasay City on December 12, 2016.

 

NEA was cited for its commendable accomplishments in its conservation initiatives which resulted in the realization of energy savings amounting to Php6.9 million equivalent to 699 MWH and CO2 avoidance of 358 tons as against the average energy consumption baseline year in 2004. It has been given a grade of 95% in its energy audit spot check.

NEA passes ISO 9001:2015 audit

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has demonstrated anew its compliance to international quality standards after successfully passing last November 10, 2016 the second surveillance audit of the ISO 9001 with upgrade to 2015 standard. This places NEA among the first national government agencies to be upgraded to the 2015 version and confirms the effectiveness of its Quality Management System (QMS).

 

The scope of certification covers the three legs of the organizational mandate of the NEA which is “to provide financial, institutional, and technical assistance to the electric cooperatives (ECs) which in turn undertake power distribution on an area coverage basis.”
