NEA reduces lending rates anew

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has reduced interest rates on its various loan windows anew in an effort to provide the electric cooperatives (ECs) with more competitive lending rates in financing their rural electrification projects.

 

The NEA Board of Administrators (NEA-BOA) through its Board Credit and Risk Management Committee approved and issued BR No. 43, s. 2016 dated April 14, 2016 thus reducing the interest rates on term and short term loans offered to ECs.

NEA gathered power coops for National Legal Conclave

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has gathered 403 General Managers, Board Presidents, Legal Counsels, and Members of the Bids and Awards Committee of 93 electric cooperatives nationwide for the a National Legal Conclave at the Hotel Novotel in Araneta Center, Quezon City on May 19-20, 2016.

 

The conclave is aimed at updating the participants on EC operations under R.A. 10531 or the “National Electrification Administration Reform Act of 2013” and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR); creating more awareness about the emerging trends and jurisprudence in today’s energy scenarios; and further equipping the participants so as to meet the expectations and needs of the EC stakeholders.

NEA Lights and Sounds in 1st BENECO Choral Fest

NEA’s Lights and Sounds Chorale was the guest performer during the first Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BENECO) Choral Festival and Competition held at the General Pedro G. Dumol Hall of the new BENECO Building in South Drive, Baguio City on May 7, 2016.

 

BENECO General Manager Gerardo P. Verzosa said, “We have initiated and organized the festival to tap the choral talents of various groups within the franchise area of the electric cooperatives and private investor-owned utilities (PIOUS). We believe that with NEA’s support, this undertaking could be a point of convergence for all ECs and PIOUs, as well”.

No major power hitch in coops’ coverage areas during election period

No major power hitch was reported within the electric cooperatives’ coverage areas during the election period from May 2-14, 2016. This covers the National and Local Elections on May 9, 2016 and the Special Elections on May 14, 2016 in selected areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

 

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has closely monitored the power situation nationwide during the period through the Power Task Force Election 2016. Reports from the coops show the occurrence of few outages caused by busted distribution transformer fuses, primary and secondary line faults, and defective fuse links. Incidence of these power interruptions was minimal and isolated and services have been readily restored.

NEA, other energy agencies on high alert for the May 9 polls

NEA, together with other energy agencies including the National Power Corporation (NPC), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and Manila Electric Company (Meralco), is on high alert during the election period. This is in response to the call of the Department of Energy (DOE) for a systematic monitoring of power service in the metropolis and in the provinces during the May 2016 elections.

 

During the press conference held today at the NGCP, DOE and the other agencies updated the members of the media on the power situation in their respective jurisdiction. DOE Secretary Zenaida Y. Monsada told members of the media, “All the agencies are doing their share and exercising utmost cooperation to be able to provide efficient service. I am very thankful to everyone who are actively participating in the power task force.” She added that, “DOE, in cooperation with NEA, NPC, NGCP and Meralco will do everything, with the help of the media, to ensure a 24-hour electricity service from morning until the last vote is counted.”

NEA forms Power Task Force Election 2016

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has created the “NEA Power Task Force Election 2016” in a move to join forces with the Department of Energy (DOE) and other Energy Family agencies to ensure adequate and reliable election power supply before, during and after the May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections.

 

This is also in response and compliance to the Energy Department Circular No. DC2016-01-001 wherein NEA is commissioned to oversee preparation of electric cooperatives (ECs) for the May 9 national and local elections and ensure the readiness and reliability of the distribution system; direct the ECs to ensure availability of technical personnel especially during Election Day and until the canvassing of votes; and ensure full cooperation of the ECs in all activities of the Power Task Force Election 2016.

Batanelco sets a first in rural electrification

The Batanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Batanelco) has set a first in the rural electrification program with the construction of an underground distribution system (UDS) in the Island of Batan to address the power reliability and service efficiency concerns of the Province of Batanes.

 

The Batan Island Underground Distribution System (UDS) Project which runs along the four municipalities of the island namely: Basco, Mahatao, Uyugan and Ivana is a first construction scheme of its kind in the country. Through a feasibility study, the scheme was selected as the most practical and cost-efficient course of action given Batanes’ unique topography and unpredictable weather condition.

NEA, BISELCO break ground Lajala submarine cable project

About 300 residents of Uson Island in Coron will soon enjoy uninterrupted power supply after NEA and the Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BISELCO) broke ground last April 15, 2016 the P19.61 million-Barangay Lajala Submarine Cable Project.

 

Inaugurated by guest of honor NEA Administrator Edita Bueno, the submarine cable project is funded through the 2014 subsidy of the Barangay Line Enhancement Program (BLEP) and will be made operational by the first week of August this year.

NEA completes sitio energization under PNoy

The National Electrification Administration (NEA), together with the electric cooperatives nationwide, has completed the energization of the target 32,441 sitios under the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) of the Aquino Administration.

 

The 32,441st sitio to be energized was Sampaguita in Brgy. Calangahan, Lugait, Misamis Oriental.
